point me in the direction of "smarty"
 

I am new to this all, can you please point me to the appropriate resources to learn how to edit the look/feel of the store? Is there a how-to somewhere or does everyone just work their way backwards throught the scripts untill they figure it out?

I already tried searching, but I have a big problem with the accuracy of the results of search features in most forums... sure it gets you results but 1/50 have any usufull info at all. Its just as tedious as reading through the posts one by one till you get your answer.
If anyone else has a link or two for a newbie it would be much appreciated

I think the Smarty tutorial is good material to start, assume you have known HTML and PHP already. As shan pointed out, Smarty.php.com is a good place to start with.
