Thumbnails in seperate folder
Hi,
I have spent quite a bit of time searching for forums, but cannot find the information I'm after. What I would like to do is have a seperate folder for different sized thumbnails so that x-cart does not need to resize a large image and thus reducing the file sizes of images used as thumbnails. Basically, all I need to know is what to edit in which file to call the smaller thumbnail image, rather than the larger image that is reduced to create a thumbnail in x-cart. Any help, ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA |
I just create thumbnails the correct size right off the bat. I don't ask X-Cart to do any resizing. So if my thumbnail width is set to '100' then I make all my thumbnails in Fireworks (using the batch feature) to a width of 100 pixels.
X-Cart by default stores thumbnails, category images and detailed product images in different tables in the database or if you are keeping your images in the filestsystem they are named differently so you can distinguish between them when thay all live in the same directory. |
I could be missing something here?
If I create e.g. a 50px thumbnail image and add it to a particular product, how do I add a larger image (not detailed images) such as 200px to display on e.g. the product detail page? Also, by 'file system' am I correct in assuming that the images are literally stored in e.g. the 'images' folder? Also, Is it possible to keep the original image name e.g. I might have a particular image that I would like to have the same name for its thumbnail, detailed image etc. so that It can easily be identified? TIA |

Good luck. |
I feel better now that I have not overlooked something. Personally I feel that the functionailty I would like should perhaps already exist within x-cart out of the box. I will have a ponder and see if I can't find a suitable method to achieve what I desire.
thanks for your help adpboss |
I am interested in this functionality too.. it seems like it should be something that is available out of the box but i cant figure out how to do it in 4.0.
Currently, the product thumbnail is auto-resized down for the category display(which is good) but I dont like the way it ends up looking. id rather there was an option to upload different sized thumbails as seperate files |
