Any formatting ideas for plain text emails?
I'm wondering if I'm trying to re-invent the wheel trying to get the text emails all lined up (which they don't properly). Does anyone have any examples or ideas for decent looking text invoices that I could look at? There may be a clever way of doing it that I'm missing??
Thanks Dan |
It can't be done due to the way different email readers will use their own fonts to display the text.
If an email reader is using a fixed width font (system fonts for example) then it will work. If it uses a non fixed width font with kerning it doesn't matter what you do it won't align the way you want it. You also have to deal with email readers which force fixed width line breaks (which vary from reader to reader) Only way around it is to provide online invoices or invoices in HTML. HTML invoices are a bad idea since not everyone can read them, many people still use web based email for convenience which doesnt always support html emails. |
Thanks Groovico,
I should have realised this with the last thing I bought off amazon, the text only email looked rather "wonky", lol. And you're right about HTML emails -I turn mine off for security reasons. What do you normally do? An email with a link to an online invoice? Dan |
