Restricting quantity each customer can purchase

I am running core 5.3.2.7. I do not want a special customized version.

We sell wine on our website. A new vintage of one of our wines was just rated 100%. We have people that we have never had as a customer wanting the wine. Our small allocation will not arrive for a few months. We will not have enough for all of the requests.

Ideally, what I would like to do is to limit each customer, for say the next 6 months, to only be able to purchase some limited number of bottles. That way we can keep our current customers happy and perhaps get a few more new customers. Is there a way to do what I would like to accomplish or any part of it?

My other option is to increase the price high enough so that only a few people will order. While the prices will be somewhat higher, I do not want to upset current customers because we raise the price too much.

Thank you for any recommendations that might exist in the current software without modifications.

I don't see a way to limit the number of items per customer without customising your X-Cart shop.

I like the idea of increasing the price more as it may increase your revenue. However you should a few tests to determine the price that gives you the target average weekly sales.

There is a new X-Cart "Pre-order/Backorder" module. Perhaps you could raise the price some, and then put that on pre-order? I would explain "Limited Quantities, get it while you can!"
