Setting Default values for Variants
 

Default values for Attributes work great. But when Attributes are made into a variant, there is no way to create a default value. If there was a default before the conversion to Variant, it is not recognized. I am trying to have a default value with a higher price, and a variant to select a lower priced option, and can't get this to work. It always defaults to the low price option. Any way around this? Seems like an oversight, not being able to create a default.

This is one of my complaints too as this type of thing is available in XC4. Please read my idea for "fixing" the "Force customer to choose product options before adding a product to cart". Your need would also solve my problem.
