X-Cart 4.6.4 upcoming changes

Hi everybody. We have updated the X-Cart 4.x roadmap recently:

http://help.x-cart.com/index.php?title=Roadmap

In addition to the above changes, we've decided to completely remove the following skins:
  • Fashion Mosaic
  • Vivid Dreams

They will be missing from the distribution pack as they are no longer supported.

Hi!

Thanks for the update, good to know what's coming and we can prepare for another update.

Could perhaps the change log be released? I understand it's a WIP, not final but it would help in preparing for the update (custom code changes for example, we can't simply run the update).

What are the other improvements and bug fixes?
And what do you mean with compatibility with the mysqli extension, I certainly hope X-Cart isn't still using the deprecated mysql extension right now?

I am glad to see XC will move to mysqli. This was supposed to happen a year ago if not earlier. MySQL extension is deprecated since last December and while I have mysqli coded on couple sites I am certainly glad to see it being coded out of the box...

@herber - yes XC all versions are still running on MySQL extension. mysqli was never even considered although this has been mentioned few times...

Never thought that X-Cart was still running on the normal MySQL extension. Then 4.6.4 should also give it a small speed bump, since the MySQLi extension is a bit faster.

The planned release date is July 2014, so it's too early for sharing any changelogs yet.

I'm not sure if I can describe all minor fixes that will be included into the next version. The major ones are integrations with new versions of 3rd-party APIs (as listed at http://help.x-cart.com/index.php?title=Roadmap) and the ability to search/export "anonymous" customers - currently "anonymous" customers ("guest" customers) are not listed in the back-end on the Users page. This improvement will show them on that page.

What are we supposed to do if we use Vivid Dreams? Been using that for years...

Will the Google Analytics property also be update to support the new Universal analytics?

Unfortunately, these skins won't be supported anymore. You can either upgrade the skins manually (like any custom skin), or use the skin from the most recent X-Cart 4 version as the base and adapt it to match your website design.

Although our developers have this in their plans, this change won't be implemented in the near future.
