Need recommendation for Product Bundle / Configurator
 

I have some "bundled" products that consists of several individual items sold in my store. Currently I'm using Product Options so the customer can customize the bundle to meet their needs. But because the chosen Product Options do not update the inventory of the individual items, it ends up being an inventory nightmare.

I tried to solve this using XC's Product Configurator feature. Because of the way it works it does not promote a great user experience (so I don't use it). I looked at the "Product Packaging / Bundle module" offered by BCSEnginneering. Unfortunately it does not allow multiple choices in the various bundled items selections, which is a requirement for my situation.

I think it would help if I showed what have in mind. Here is a online store that sells a bundled item that demonstrates what I would like to do. Please note the "Please Choose" area near the bottom of the catalog page description. That's the part I want to emulate.

I was hoping to find a ready-to-install module that would do this. Is there such a thing?

Not that I know of. This is a very common problem. Needs a custom coded solution, where multiple products are added to cart. Search the forums.

This is a big feature missing in xcart. We tried product configuration too. QT needs to improve this mod!

We use bcse mod but it is integrating poorly into templates and it is not for this purpose.

Some of the competing carts present and solve this nicely including discounting options for adding products...

I'm about to undertake a similar project and am currently looking at Altered cart.

Would this be an option for you perhaps?

I purchased that module last April (shortly after it was released). I ran into several issues and so I interacted with Alteredcart to resolve them. Support was responsive and provided some patches.

But I continued to run into issues and eventually abandoned the module because the project was consuming too much of my time. I estimate that I spent about 20 hours testing/evaluating/reporting before calling it quits.

The problems may have been due to the complexity of my "kits" but I think it was mostly due to it being a newly released module. Several months have passed so perhaps all the issues have been resolved. For reference, my last downloaded version was V1.05 (I'm not able to download anything newer). If you install a more recent release then please let me know how it works out for you.

If anything is needed more complex than our bundle or packaging module, we have a very very nice custom configurator. Just email us for details and pricing as well as an example site using it.
