Can't select new Skin
I'm stumped. I'm trying to create a new skin (that's only sightly different from an existing vivid_ skin), so I've created the directory and copied the files I want to edit into that directory in the same structure as in the original skin directory.
The directory has the same permissions as the original directory. I'd like to switch my (as yet staging) site to the new skin, and then make the changes to that skin; I haven't changed any of the skin files yet. But I can't see the new skin in the "General Settings"-> "Appearance"-> "Select Skin to use" drop-down in the Settings page. Is there some sort of 'init' that I need to run whenever I install or duplicate a skin in that directory? I would have thought that it does a search whenever that page is displayed, but I've restarted the browser, and cleared the cache, but I can't get it to appear so that I can select it! Can anyone help? |
Re: Can't select new Skin
The skin directory should have file "altskin.ini" with some info in it - skin name, position, etc. If you have copied common_files directory its ini file is under 3-columns directory - you can copy it from there and change it

Thanks for your quick reply-
I said I hadn't edited any of the skin files yet, but I have altered that file - to give it a new name, order, and author. That is, as far as I can see, where the configuration.php file gets it's $altSkinsInfo, which should populate that drop-down list. |
Re: Can't select new Skin
Have you cleared the XC cache? I don't think there is anything else to change to create new skin directory

Re: Can't select new Skin
I didn't think of that, but it looks like there's about 2MB in there - that doesn't sound like a lot for a cache.
When I click the "Clear Cache" button, though, it goes for a while - currently 15 minutes and counting. That's probably not right. Maybe I've got a permissions problem in the cache? I see in that directory there are scads of files with whacked-out filenames: Code:
... and there are 7 sub-directories in that 'templates_c' directory that each have 30+ character hex names, and between 200 & 1200 files in each. Is this as it should be? |
