welcome page display a catagories page
 

I want to have my welcome page display a catagories page that looks like the featured items page, but instead of featured items have big thumbnails of one item from each catagory (the same image as my icons only bigger)and text of catagory name. Both the image and the text should link to each catagory pages. I have a feeling this is simple, but I can't seem to get it to work properly. I only have 6 catagories with no subcatagories and 31 total products. Version 3.4 gold. Any help would be appreciated.

you can edit welcome.tpl and create your content there

or create a seperate template and include it from welcome.tpl

I know where the info is supposed to go...i'm just not sure of the code. i'm new to php. any help, would be appreciated.

Did you ever get this figured out? I'd like to do something very similar.

The easiest solution is to hard code this into your home page. You will need to update it whenever you change your root categories.

seems easy to use welcome.tpl to code some html in to the home page

but, what if you wanted a different html page for each category?

my client wants a different page for each main category for hot/sale items. doesn't want a cookie cutter look, so the featured products won't cut it.

they also want some navigation buttons/tabs in the center section that correspond to the main categories

this should probably be a static page so the client (who knows html) can edit as they wish, without messing with my tpl files.

i've played around a bit with the home_main using the info from this topic

but i can't get anything to list on top of the subcategories.
