To Disneyana and others!

Hi Disneyana,

I visted your site and its very cute - I especially like the gem/ruby image you have under the "View Cart" section, which shines every so often.

I was wondering if you (or anyone for that matter) could tell me how you did that? I was looking all over the internet....

What i would like to do is to make "the glamour hut" (please visit www.glamour-hut.com/ghshopping/customer/home.php ) shine, just
like your ruby.....

does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks so much guys!

j-chick,

Thanks for the nice comments! That was done as an animated .gif, but I know there are better methods out there such as flash or swf (not familiar with). Boomer incorporates some of this on his sites. If you're interested in something like the gem, please pm me and we can work something out.

a little more insite here...

In some animated gif creation software packages... the time each frame can be set.. so the main animation could be say 1 isecond, the the flash frame could be .1 seconds.. or what ever... I may be wrong.. Im going from memory. Microsoft "USED" to offer a free gif animation proggie.. Im sure thats Long gone by now as it was a long time ago..

Hope that helped...

Personally I think animated gif's are a bit obsolete but can come in handy at times. Here's some resourceful flash related links:

I agree boomer, BUT...

Animated gifs don't require a plugin. (On my PC for security reasons, I have IE set up to prompt me when a web page trying to access a ActiveX component)

Animated GIF pros and cons:

Pros:

1) MUCH simpler to implement in a web site.
2) most (that I have tried) freeware banner rotation scripts can't hanlde anything but images.
3) Not nearly as flexible as flash in terms as what can be accomplished.

Cons.
1) only 256 colors max can be used including the transparency.
2) Usually don't render real pictures well, when they do, they are larger in size than Flash animations.
3) more difficult to create.

IMHO - theres a place for both, its up to us to determin which is best for the application..

I have clients that DEMAND FLASH JUST because its the "Lastest thing" when a JPG would have worked better, simpler. - But who am I to turn away extra $$$ for the extra work... :)

Peace
