X-Cart Product API
 

Hi guys!

We are thinking about creating Product API module for X-Cart. We are already working on it and as a first iteration it will include methods to fetch products by ID/category ID and fetch categories. For now, it will be one-sided: only to pull data. The list of available methods might be extended in the future, of course.

We are in progress of making a decision about how it will finally look like and we would like the module to fit needs of as many people as possible. That is why we would like to collect your opinions about it. Are you going to use it? What methods would you like to see in this API?

Any questions and opinions are highly appreciated.

That sounds like a great idea. We've often talked about writing some custom stuff that would allow us to put relevant products beside content from our main website. An api that would allow us to do this easily would be very useful.

It would be fantastic if we could use this API so people could actually integrate our product catalog into their own stores and place orders. We often get this request.

Some of our larger customers who already have stores but do not want to stock our product base would like to just have a section where customers could go, purchase something on their site and the order would automatically be sent to us for processing. I'm not sure if we would need to run that customers CC, it may be do-able of API User Site ran CC and then just sent us an order request and we process a CC on file or something.

Perhaps you could include methods to make it easier to create add-to-cart and product page links that pre-set options and variants, see: http://forum.x-cart.com/showthread.php?t=58301

Your initial idea with the API focusing on read-only on categories and products would get me 90% of what I need. We focus on products/services for events, so to allow them integrate into our system via this API would be great!
