duplicate store for testing
 

Please help!

I created a directory 'devsite' and copied all xcart contents to devsite. I also created a duplicate database to go with devsite. I am able to log into devsite version and change settings in admin, but when I try changing files like main.css in devsite nothing happens. What could be the cause of that? In test/dev mode it only wants to show the landing page/welcome.tpl. When I click links it's in Closed mode so categories/page contents other than landing page do not show up, which seems to defeat the purpose a bit of testing/design implementation.

What we want to do is make pages wider across the board, have 4 or 5 columns of products instead of 3 and change thumbnail widths and page background colors.

If someone could let me know specific files and where they are located to do said things that would be AWESOME!

Use Webmaster mode from admin to see which templates are being used.
Use Firebug in Firefox to see what css classes (and files) to change. Maybe you are editing the wrong css file.
Turn off css caching while doing changes.
When you've made changes, if they don't show on browser refresh - clear your template cache - running /cleanup.php will do it.

Thanks, Paul! OK, I found that the file main.css was in skin/common_files/css folder. Posting in case it ever helps anyone else.
