Does anyone know of a mod for product details area, the area that shows the product images, price, options, add to cart button, etc.?

Oh Sorry..

I would like a mod to change the look of the area, change the layout, borders, etc. I don't care for the default x-cart look of this area. I guess it would be more of a "skin" or "layout" mod?

yes, different skins will alter that area.

There is no mod for something like this. You design the look, or find similar one you like or just write down some spects how you want it to look like. Then this has to be implemented as skin by changing css, html code, move elements around... to get the efect you are after. You can also of course buy ready skin - look in the marketplace
