Help template changes not showing up
 

This is a bizarre issue and I am at the end of my rope. I am trying to make modifications to the contact us template ( /skin/common_files/help/contactus.tpl ). I can edit it directly in FTP (or using the template editor) - I can verify the changes are saved, but they are not reflected on the front end contact page. I tried cleanup.php, clearing browser cache - to no avail.

I can edit the other templates besides anything in the help folder and the changes show immediately, but NONE of the changes made to ANY of the templates in the help folder work. I even renamed contactus.tpl to see if the contact form would error or be blank, but it still shows the standard contact form. I ran webmaster mode and verified the correct template is in use on that page and edited it from there, but the changes do not show up.

Is there any way the system could be looking somewhere else for the help templates and yet webmaster mode shows them as being in /skin/common_files/help/ ?? This is driving me nuts. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Did you clear the cache? Try entering yourdomain.com/cleanup.php and it should do it.

Something else we found, there is a setting in config.php that forces x-cart to use the cached pages. There is a thread discussing this at http://forum.x-cart.com/showthread.php?t=61279

Also, are you sure you have write permissions in the help folder? Just trying to cover all the bases.

Thanks JWait - yeah, you're covering all the right things - I did run cleanup.php and do have write permissions set and verified from two different methods (editing file directly from FTP and using XCart's template editor) that the changes are actually being made to the file.

The config thing sounds interesting, I'll check into that. Thanks for the reply. I'll post back when I resolve this.

Ok, Duhhhh. My attention to detail is weak at 3am.

The actual template used is /skin/common_files/customer/help/contactus.tpl and I was looking at /skin/common_files/help/contactus.tpl but I swear the webmaster mode link opened that file at one point and the changes I made were there even though they didn't show on the front end.

And now I am wondering WHY those templates are there if they are not used. :/
