Importing images - can't find existing images
Hi all,
I am using a version of 4.4.4 and am attempting to import both the product and thumbnail image (something I have done numerous times on previous versions) I have upload the products to the respective P/ and T/ directories and the files are referenced in my spreadsheet as per the below. !THUMBNAIL T/505042.jpg !IMAGE P/505042.jpg I can see the images, yet X-cart throws up an error like this, Error on line 3: The image file pointed to by the filepath in the column 'THUMBNAIL' is not found. (PRODUCTS): and the relevant info ;T/505042.jpg; any suggestions would be appreicated. |
Re: Importing images - can't find existing images
These directories are maintained by X-Cart.
You should not upload images to the [images/(X)] folder directly. These directories are used by X-Cart. For the import purpose you should upload the images e.g. to [var/tmp/(X)] folders. Also, you should specify the "Directory where images are located" option on the import page. X-Cart will copy them to the proper location automatically. http://help.qtmsoft.com/index.php?title=X-Cart:Import-Export_Guide http://help.qtmsoft.com/index.php?title=X-Cart:How_to_export_and_import_products_with_images |
Re: Importing images - can't find existing images
Hi Alex,
Thanks for the prompt response. I have previously imported straight into the files before so is this a new method, or have I been wrong for the beginning? Also by using the proper method will it keep the exact same file name? Thanks |
Re: Importing images - can't find existing images
Something everyone seems to be vague about is the fact that anytime you do anything with any of the images in the root/images folder the images are not over written but kept and the filename appended (with -01, -02, etc.) every time you change the image.
There are various threads that discuss this "phenomena". Here are just some... http://forum.x-cart.com/showthread.php?t=25120 http://forum.x-cart.com/showthread.php?t=54176 http://forum.x-cart.com/showthread.php?t=51189 What we do is upload the images to a sub-folder we made in root/files named images_backup with the same sub-folder structure as what is in root/images (i.e folders named T, P, D, M, W, C). Then we upload our images there and "point" x-cart to them. This can be done via .csv file or manually on the product modify page in admin. |
