AlteredCart One Page Checkout - install on live store or copy?

Hello, I want to install One Page Checkout from AlteredCart on a 4.3.1 site. Should I make a store copy on a subdirectory of the remote server and test the installation on the copy, or there is no problem to go ahead and install it on the live store, given that I will close it for a few hours, so I can test the mod before re-opening the store?

Alteredcart OPC allows you to set IP address(es) for testing purposes so you can install on the live site and set your IP address - it will work for you only and everybody else will see just the regular checkout

Are the IP addresses set through the mod admin settings?

Does the installation involve just php files editing, so if something goes wrong, I can restore the original corresponding files?
