Just Getting Started

I have recently purchased and so far LOVE 4.4.3 and have looked over the built in templates along with the AMAZING stuff of other members have created.

How does one go about creating a site that is customized to that extent? Do you have to use the built in editing of X-Cart or can you utilize a 3rd party application and bring in the files for editing.

I'm only asking because I want to make sure that what I do, doesn't interfere with the X-cart software, variables and templates.

This refers to an older version of X-Cart, but the same basic principals still apply:

You really need to know html/css/Smarty very well in order to edit the look and feel in X-Cart.

Thanks. That will help because right now I'm just trying to modify the logo area to fit a large logo than the standard 230x50.

You will need to use Firebug extensively to determine which CSS classes go with which elements. Also use Webmaster Mode to locate templates.

WOW. FireBug is AWESOME!!!! I was able to find what I was looking for in about 1 minute.

Anymore extensions I should be aware of that may help?

Colorzilla, Y-slow, PageSpeed... also use some simple text editor with FTP client and not the built in XC editor in admin for editing templates
