Is it possible to edit users online?
I am wondering if there is some kind of code that I could add to my users online where it looks as if there's more people online than there is.
I like having it display on the site, but am thinking if I put an additional 10 or other number that could be added the real users online I might have more credibility. The site is new and we don't get that many visitors right now. If I did this the number would change with the real number of visitors plus whatever number I put in there. Is this possible? Thanks, |

Turn that module off - there is no need for it and lying to your customers about how many people are there is just unethical.

I don't think showing how many ppl you have on the site at a given time means anything to anybody. What's the difference if you show 10 or 20? Also I don't think this makes customers more willing to buy. As balinor said - better not show this at all

Re: Is it possible to edit users online?
I have thought about disabling it or at least commenting it out on the front end, but I was thinking it might look more credible for more people to show, like going to a storefront where the parking lot is empty vs. a full lot. I don't want to frighten people off because there is no one on the site. If that makes sense. Although I am trying to clean up clutter on the site so I'll prob disable it.

Re: Is it possible to edit users online?
Again, that is unethical and won't gain you anything. Do you see a 'number of people online' counter at amazon, buy.com, or any other reputable e-commerce company? No, you don't because no one cares, they are looking for a good price and a professional looking site that isn't going to rip them off.

maybe you want doing this to impress your direct competition. when they will see 100 online users, they will worry about their businesses :)

LOL - not really. I hadn't even thought of that (I don't really have any competition that carries my product line in it's entirety - so people looking for my items can see the entire line on my site, whereas just one or two items on other sites). But you did give me a snicker, I bet that's what this thread probably sounded like, I promise that wasn't my reasoning for asking. In all honesty, I just thought it looked cheesy for customers to come online and see 1 other person or 3 people, if that makes sense. But, now that I have taken my beating for asking  Could someone point me to the right file to comment it out on the front end, where it's still viewable on the admin/back end? [I know I should know this but I have looked and am not seeing it] - if just disable it then it will be off on both sides, right? Thanks so much, Jeanne |
