Add extra fields to Address Book?
 

Hey,

Does anybody know if you can add extra fields to the Address book? I'd like to add an additional Company Name field...

NO you can't and QT doesn't want to modify the address book and make it right. I've been asking them to do this since forever, 4.4.2 is out and yet we still have the stupid and ridiculous way of collecting and holding customers personal info.

Search the bug tracker and ideas site for posts in there and ask them to do it

Thanks again Steve, I guess customers are just gonna have to use the firstname/lastname fields to let me know their company names...

Oh, this is bad.

I'm upgrading a wholesale site, and in my old X-Cart I added fields needed for the customer to apply for wholesale status and I required a company name.

Now there is no company name option, and COMPANIES ARE ALL I SELL TO!

My short term fix is to rename the Address 1 line to Company/Address or something like that.

I may also rename the county field.

EDIT:
Even though I have made the 'county' field mandatory in the Address Book settings, it is still not showing up in the customer popup box. I edited common_files/customer/main/address_fields.tpl, common_files/customer/main/address_details_html.tpl, and common_files/main/address_fields.tpl to reorder 'county' to appear before 'address1'. So far, I see no changes.

It seems that 'county' would normally not appear in the customer's address popup. The 'fax' field does, so now I will re-edit the above files to see if I can get 'fax' moved up to be after 'last name'.

EDIT2:
When I edited common_files/customer/main/address_fields.tpl to have the 'fax' field move to where a 'company' field would normally be (before 'address1'), that made the 'fax' field move.

So it looks like 'fax' may be the workaround for the missing 'company name' field until I find out how to actually add the real company name field to the popup. I will rename 'fax' to be 'company', and rename 'company' to something else (to avoid confusion) and disable it as an active field.

For the existing customer info I have, I will use Navicat to copy Company names from the old store to the Address Book's 'fax' field.

Is this still the only workaround? We are wanting to add a company field to the address book also, and I was wondering if we could do anything a little less intrusive than changing the address_fields.tpl file? i.e. add "company" to address_data and not just default_data? Thanks!

Wow! Boy I got fooled. I would never have used X-cart if I knew I couldn't have "company name" in the address book. I just assumed, silly me! That's a very hard pill to swallow. I'm not very happy right now.
