Re: Introducing... xBanners for X-Cart

Hi Anandat,

Yep, it certainly does support flash banners, I've updated my original post just to clarify this. (thanks)

When creating an xBanner you can choose between, image banners (single image or
image groups with various transition effects), HTML text banners & flash based banners.

If you would like to see the admin area of the mod in action, you can see it demonstrated in our video tutorials:

Re: Introducing... xBanners for X-Cart

Is this banner seo friendly? Does it slow down my site?

Re: Introducing... xBanners for X-Cart

Hi Tony,

Good question :)

Yep, xBanners is as SEO friendly as it possibly can be.

The banners are added to your source using <ul> lists, the source is very clean. If you choose to create image banners you can define the image alt tag & URL title,
the same is true for flash banners. You can also add HTML banners, in this case you insert this code so its up to you how SEO friendly it is.

Does it slow down my site?

The short answer is "Yes & No"

"Yes" because every single x-cart module that has to call into the database to retrieve data will impact on the server, this is a fact. So the less calls you make to the database the better.

"No" because in the case of xBanners the calls to the database are tiny in comparison to the standard xcart database queries that are executed for every single page loaded on your site.

So, to correctly answer the question, you or your customer will not notice any performance difference from installing and using xBanners.

We ran some performance tests before on various servers using xbanners and the impact was minimal, almost unnoticeable. I will see if I have this data on file somewhere.

W.

Re: Introducing... xBanners for X-Cart

Where to begin? I'm a complete novice when it comes to xCart. So I emailed the xCart Store about this mod, within minutes I got a reply with the answer I was looking for. I decided to install the trial version as I thought the mod was to good to be true and I was sick of paying for mods that weren't as described. After reading the instructions to install the mod (very detailed and easy to follow!) I had xBanners up and running in minutes.

I use xBanners to list my manufacturers on the front page, along with the promotion side of my website at the side and on the header. Needless to say the banners work flawlessly, you have all the technical side of the banners on your admin section, easy to access and easy to see which banner gets the most clicks and so forth all very useful stuff indeed.
You can change all your images, change them on the admin side with ease. (set dates and the locations for other users to see certain banners although I have no idea how to do it as i don't require such an advanced feature) but the option is there and tutorials on the website if you decide to do so in the future.

Basically all I'm trying to get across is if you need a banner module for your xcart website look no further, seriously. Everything you need is in this module! I'm considering using the predictive search module and hoping The xCart Store release more mods at this quality.

p.s i don't usually do reviews but in this case i wanted people to know how good it truely is!
