Manufacturers & Providers

Is there a way to link these two? Or am I missing something?

It seems a major feature that has been overlooked would be-->

Provider signs up & is approved.
Provider fills out their profile.
Profile can be viewed online by shoppers via the Manufacturer list, or even a separate Provider list.

agreed?

Re: Manufacturers & Providers

Hi Joel
No, for most people these are two totally different things.
A provider is just a retailer, whereas the manufacturer would be the brand of goods sold by that manufacturer.
So your providers might be "Joel's Car sales", "Paul's New Cars", whereas the manufacturers would be Ford, Toyota, Renault, etc.

If you wanted to split your shop up into Provider sections, you'd need to be using X-Cart PRO, possibly along with BCSE's X-Mall add-on.

Re: Manufacturers & Providers

I have a similar question. I don't want my providers to have their own store fronts, but I do want the user to be able to search the products by provider. My site will allow different crafters to all sell their products in my store as one store front, but the purchaser may want to find other products by the same crafter.

Any way to do this?

Then provider for you will be the manufacturer

This is a work around, but it means that I have to create a provider account for my sellers to be able to manage their items...AND...I must add them as a manufacturer so they can add THEMSELVES as a mfr on their own items. This is the only way that customers will be able to find them on their own things. A lot of duplication that is annoying. Everything would be fine if I could just search the database by provider. Seems simple enough. Plus, there are cases when I truly DO have mfr's (craft supplies, fabric lines, etc) and now I'll have to mix them in with the 'sellers/mfrs'.
