Static Pages - Need a comprehensive mod
 

Hi All,

Due to the nature of our business, I need to be able to have a number of static pages, or even some separate information areas, into which I can put technical information.

Part of this would be a dedicated area, for trade. Law states that we cannot display some information to retail customers, so need to be able to restrict specific pages to certain membership levels.

Ideally, I would also like it to work with X-Cart's CleanURL functionality, but this is much less important than the membership feature.


I have been speaking to BCSE about their Static Pages mod, but it seems that, despite being able to restrict memberships, it does not actually stop them from seeing the page. For example, a retail member wouldn't be able to navigate to a 'trade' page when logged in, but if they went direct to a URL, they would be able to see the 'restricted page' - I'm currently awaiting a quote to change it to do this, but to my mind, surely this should be built in to the modification anyway, considering it doesn't actually restrict membership!?


If anyone has any other ideas, I will be very very grateful to hear them - I've done a search and can't find anyone who's wanted to do a similar thing? Surely someone has an 'information' section to their website.

I have done similar modification for static pages info on a client's site where you can see certain static pages only if you are logged in and then whcih pages you can see depends on the membeship. You can contact me at the email in my signature.

If you may want more functionality with the pages, the xCMS mod at WebsiteCM also looks interesting. But, it would also need to be modified to include the membership restrictions that are your main requirement.

xCMS does look quite interesting, but as you say, I would still require that to be modified to suit what I need - I don't mind that, just so long as it does what I need it to - I just wondered if there was anything 'out of the box' that would do what I'm after, really.

Quite easy to restrict static pages by membership level... This could be modified...

Hi Phil,

I did try to contact you regarding this modification a while ago, but didn't hear anything back?

I tried the VIP module, but not keen on the method that it uses to restrict the pages - If it was split more in the back-end, as a very distinct way of deciphering between trade and retail, that would be a lot better - I can't guarantee that people would remember to set the 'priority' level correctly, that's my only concern.
