Can this customization even be done?
 

Hi,

I have read all the docs on customizing appearance, but my dreamweaver 8 does not read smarty tags, and before I spend hours, I thought maybe somebody could look at this site and tell me if it can even be done:

1. Apperance must be kept as is.
2. Side sliding menus should have categories, as you can see if you click "skirts", as well as the other options there now.
3. When you click a category like "skirts", you can see that the items appear in a "
box" under the banner and right of the menu. Must do that.
4. Then if select an item, its detail stay in the box as well (in place of the category display.
5. any checkout, etc, must also take place in that box, although for that the box could be made bigger/longer.

You get the idea. Is this even possible?

Terrific. Did you look at site? if so, big job or little? Finally, best way to edit templates with tool (i.e. dreamweaver 8) because smarty php kills design preview?

Not a complicated one if that's what you mean by "big" but if you don't know the xcart structure could give you a headache :) I know lots of users use Dreamweaver, I don't. FTP, Notepad++ and Firebug (FF addon) is good enough. Notepad++ has a smarty template viewer so everything is highlighted with different colors and easy to work with

I use Scite, based on same core as Notepad++, but I have not found an addon for either that helps with smarty. Do you have a URL for it? Thanks.
