Changing template

Hi,

How much would this actually affect a live shop?

Will it overwrite all changes made to the existing files, will all the mods have to be redone?

Can the look itself be changed without affecting anything else I suppose.

I have the horrible feeling I know already, but thought it was worth checking:D

It would be a pre-done template, as opposed to custom work.

Re: Changing template

Certain mods require changes to the template, so in most all cases yes you would need to redo the mods.

Re: Changing template

If you change files in skin1 and they have the same names yes it will override whatever you did to these files before and as Tal said you will have to redo the code from 3rd party mods that goes in templates. It is possible I think to have like skin2 directory and switch, that will not override templates but you have to repeate all 3rd party modifications in both skins

Thankyou both, not so straight forward then.

Will need to re-think this one.

I have added products and mods to a standard template in 4.4.3 Can I change template in 4.4 Appearance-- Select Skin-- and not lose product/mod information? I would like to test store with a different template before launching. Thank You.

Re: Changing template

You can change templates. You can't lose product info by doing this. Depends on the skin and what template changes different mods you installed require you may not see this mods with the new skin. Information won't be lost but you may need to make changes to the other skin templates
