Back port CKEditor, TinyMCE, and InnovaStudio WYSIWYG editors from 4.3
 

I was wondering if any of the great minds have already tried to back-port the WYSIWYG editors included in 4.3 to an older release.. 4.2.2 for example.

I think the 3 editors will provide great flexibility and will be a great thing to look at.

I will probably be adding this to my list of ToDo's in case no one has ever tried:D

So please share the good work if anyone has already accomplished this.

Thanks Paul for the link and pointing out some great work done by Phil.

After poking around, I was able to back port this from 4.3 to 4.2.1.

Here is what I did, run the attached scripts which are basically taken from the DB scripts for 4.3.

I then had to copy the folder -
skin1\modules\HTML_Editor onto my xcart folder.

Carefully update or add the files located at -
modules\HTML_Editor\config.php
skin1\main\start_textarea.tpl
skin1\main\textarea.tpl

Once you do so, just follow the manual for xcart to switch between the 3 editors :lol:

For anyone thinking of trying this on 4.1.* there are a lot of other files to change as well, new smarty modifiers exist and extra functions were added into func.core.php from 4.2 onwards that the editors require - in short its not worth the trouble!

Its much simpler to add a new editor from scratch to 4.1.* as per this thread
