how or where do i change the alt img tag for the spacer.gif

It depends on which template it is being called from.

when I use grep it appears to me to pull from
auth.tpl:<td><img src="{$ImagesDir}/spacer.gif" width="22" height="1"
alt="" border="0" /></td>

when I edit this template and save it the file still shows alt tag as alt=""

Confused
