I purchased this from "cart-labs" and so far, the service on this issue and a few issues with one page checkout have been very slow. But this one baffles me as to why it works this way.

ONCE ENABLED, the smart search is not so smart.
Please enable smart search and then perform the following tests:
Visit category Rings>Fashion Rings>Butterfly Rings, notice I have 10 or so in stock.
Search for "butterfly rings".
The result you get shows ONE. And that ONE is not even in stock. It has been out of stock now for about 7 days. Click on it and you get a 404 message.
PROBLEM #1 - Why is smart search serving up Out of Stock items?
PROBLEM #2 - Why is smart search serving up many other things instead of the 10 butterfly rings that are in stock?
PROBLEM #3 - Why does smart search show results (1-12) of 57, yet there is no way to get to page two There is no "arrow right" or "next page".
PROBLEM #4 - Why does smart search show a list of "related categories" yet it does not list "Butterfly Rings" category ?????

Finally, the list of related words is not really even related. Like "Butterflies' is not in the list, nor butter, nor fly.

Is any this normal for smart search? I have read many good things about it, but hands down (to me) default xcart search works much better and more reliable.

Am I doing something wrong?

I'd always suggest purchasing the mods from the actual mod creator - this is not Cart Lab's product, it is by Altered Cart. I have never had any issues with the Smart Search module, it is a fantastic mod IMHO and one a big store can't live without. It sounds like something may be amiss with your install. I'd suggest contacting Altered Cart directly and not dealing with Cart Lab for this module.

Cart Labs response has been very slow, they blame altered cart and say that they are slow in responding to them.

I tried to buy from altered cart and they did not respond to my request for purchase. In fact, I ended up buying three mods made by altered cart from cart labs cuz they did not respond.

Smart Searh Help - Does not work - Any way to make it work?
 

I find this utterfly frustrating that everyone likes this add on, yet I am having so much trouble with it.

I bought it from cartlabs, big mistake, they are not very willing and very slow to help. They keep pointing me to knowledge base at alteredcart. There is nothing the knowledge base that I recognize as being linked to my issues.

QT installed it, supposedly correctly, but I would not know. The few times Craig (cartlabs) looked, he has not mentioned anything to be wrong with install?

I have rebuild the indexes using this:

I have "tuned" it using this:

Here are the problems:

I have a category named "butterfly rings"
Each of these items has "butterfly ring" in it's title and in the full description.

The weight of the title in the config.php file is 20
The weight of the fulldesc field in the config.php file is 15
The weigh of every other field is set to 1

When you search for the following terms, you get NOTHING related to butterfly rings.

I searched for:
Butterfly Rings
Butterfly Ring
butterfly rings
butterfly ring
butterfly
butter fly ring
butter fly rings

NONE bring up any butterfly rings. One of them does bring up 3 pairs of butterfly earrings.

Craig (cartlabs) won't give me money back.
Alteredcart demands payment to investigate. Which really bothers me as thing has NEVER worked.

I am guessing this has to be related to my system, but I have no idea where to start.

Anyone?

Ok guys, I finally gave up on Craig at cart labs whom I bought this from and emailed altered cart directly, 8 hours later, it is fixed. It is working pretty good now and I have some more questions in to Bill to hopefully finish it off.

;) You saw, it's better to buy from the creator.. and for bill? I always get response within a few hours and when an error occurs he can keep searching for it for years untill he get there, never give up :P

Bill has been most helpful and I have now purchased the "on sale" modules which just plainly kicks BUTT !
