Product images - Link to image URL

I don't wan't to bloat my database by importing all my images. In 4.3.0 when I try to select the files - which are on my server - it won't show me my directories. When I try to link directly to the URL of the image - it's a legit URL - it gives me this message:

Quote:

WARNING! The file, which image URL you have specified, cannot be uploaded or used, because it is either unavailable or you have specified a wrong URL. If you have used a HTTPS link, please replace it with a HTTP link, or make sure that your X-Cart-based store is configured to work with HTTPS modules.

Is this a bug in 4.3.0?

I havent used 4.3, but have you tried using your root path?
ex: /home/user/public_html/images/D/image.jpg or c:/program files/apache/apache2.2.13/htdocs/images/D/image.jpg

Tal,

Thanks for the reply. The problem is that I am trying to link to an image that is not on the server. The reason for that is pretty elaborate, so I wont get into it. Just to test, I did try the local and server options and they both work, so it seems to be an issue with the external image. I have tried multiple images and they are all real images and not protected in anyway.

:???:
Has anyone solved this? It used to work OK for me, but suddenlly about a month ago, I get this message every time I try to upload a photo which is hosted on photobucket. My colleague can upload fine using the same method. I used to be able to do so on this laptop. If I paste the URL into my browser, the picture loads.
