Using symbols in descriptions

I would like to use product rating stars in my descriptions, but I want to rate the products myself to guide the customers, and not let the customers change them. Tech support says it cant be done without custom modifications. It would seem that a simple way to do this would be to use the star symbol in the wingdings font, wingdings: 171, but I can't find a way to insert this in the descriptions using the HTML editors. I can do it in Frontpage, but copying the code from there to the description text enters a different character and the symbols in the wysiwyg editor are very limited.

Any suggestions?

And what if I look at your products descriptions and I don't have that font installed? I won't be able to see what you want me to see. Better use images

That probably indicates my level of expertise. I thought Wingdings font was pretty standard.

I do have it yes but was just trying to make a point. Maybe Wingdings font is like Ariel - exist everywhere, I don;t know, so why take chances. You can always use images even not in the description but in the template before or after description to show them based on something you set up.

That would probably be the way to go. Unfortunately I have no idea how to do it. I'm afraid I am a total novice. I got halfway good at customizing LiteCommerce by just finding the right template and making changes until it did what I wanted.

With X-Cart, I really don't know where to start. It's just too complicated for me. Putting something in the template that would make it possible to put a different number of stars in the descriptions, depending on the product, is way beyond me. That's why I thought using a symbol font would be easiest. Maybe its just more than I should be getting into.
