Using Empty Categories, Description Not Showing

Hello, in order to enable our static pages to be part of the main product navigation, we decided to use the category pages and descriptions instead. Since they essentially have the WYSIWYG editor and similar functionality.

The problem is that we don't need to add products to these categories, but when we remove the products, the description disappears.

We are using the latest version 4.2.2 and an example page is here:
https://juhlir.tempdomainname.com/store/home.php?cat=274

Any help with what file controls the descriptions and what code to use in order to allow the descriptions to display when no products are present?

This is not a problem for me. I just tested it out on a stock versino of x-cart 4.2.1 and it works fine. It;s somehthing in your install.

The file that controls this is subcategories.tpl

Are you using a custom skin or have done extensive alterations to the skin?

I have two empty categories that are displaying ok. I couldn't find anything related to not displaying a category when it's empty. Is your category enabled?

Steve.

Re: Using Empty Categories, Description Not Showing

Thanks so much, we retested and it was occuring on the 3rd level down, sub category. However, reposting seemed to solve the problem.

I may be asking more, this site is quite complex, I'm not sure that using categories for static content is the way to go after all.

It does allow us to easily combine the navigation with the products but it presents other issues.

Based on the client's vision: http://juhlir.tempdomainname.com/images/quadrel_products_inline.jpg

And what we've done so far with a 3rd party nav add-on:

any ideas if we are headed in the right direction? Maybe using static pages as they were intended is better?

Thanks!!

You could always still display the static pages in the right hand column, below or above the product cats and name the menu info or something relevant.

Seems simpler.

Thanks, yes it would be much easier but we have 3-4 levels of static pages deep so using some kind of nav that supports that is ideal. (oops used my other login - well it's all the same, lol!)

Thanks!
