Difficult Nav Design - Could use some advice

Hello all, we have quite a few Lite Commerce sites and one X-Cart site under our belts. Took on a large project for a manufacturer who has a product catalog with lots of static pages.

The navigation goes like this for the product catalog:

[Top Category]
-Sub Cat
-Sub Cat
-Sub Cat
--Product
--Product
--Product
-Sub Cat
[Top Category]
[Top Category]

So on the left side we need to accmodate (grahically no less) for a nested list of categories and products. I see the Fancy Cats but those are now just fly-outs. Any ideas no how to achieve this - or the best mod to achieve this?
