text editor
Hi guys,
I understood that it is best to make all the changes in text by downloading the required page (with ftp client) and using a text editor (and uploading again). 1. Is that how you do it? 2. what text editor would you recommend? I'm using MS Vista, not Mac, and I have DW (which will not help me I understand). TIA, Barak |
Re: text editor
That is WAY too much work - just use an FTP client with a built-in text editor like CuteFTP Pro.
Moving to Template Editing. |
Re: text editor
Thanks, balinor,
I have coreftp - can I use that? I can switch to cuteFTP, but what should I do - transfer and and change? I understand that this is not wise to work on the server. |
Re: text editor
It is fine to work on the server, as long as you make backups of everything first. The way I work is to save the whole skin1 directory to my hard drive first, and then I work directly on the server. If something gets screwed up, I restore from the backup.
I don't know coreftp, sorry :( |
Re: text editor
balinor,
You use the built in cuteFTP text editor? |
Re: text editor
Yep

Re: text editor
Ashley,
You've recommended the crimson in the past, right? If you use that, do you download, edit and upload? Are you happy with it? |
Re: text editor
I keep a copy of my entire site on my computer.
Then I use FlashFXP to edit files directly on the server. Steve. |
Re: text editor
Yes, Im happy with Crimson Editor. I use alot of the advanced features, such as macros, and I like the syntax highlighting. Personal preference I guess.
