Does anyone know anything about the Friend's Wish List?
 

I see that some guy had a problem with it a few years back here but does anyone know what it is for and how it works? Its just appeared on my site. weird... help...

yes, a friends wish list. it has a label so it is real: lbl_friends_wish_list

That isn't a standard X-Cart module - must be an add-on of some sort. And what do you mean it just appeared on your site?

Actually is standard with x-cart. When someone adds an item to the wish list then they have the option to email that wish list to somebody else (a friend). In that friend's email is a link to the product and when they click on it it opens the product page with friends wish list title. I tried it only once and thats how it work if I remember correctly. It was long time ago so I could be wrong (sorry)

I have never seen that! Very few of my clients use the wish list as it is so clunky.

I have used the wish list as a place to collect products for narrowing down to a single decision. But yesterday this friend's wish list appeared. I will do some more testing as I need to understand it exactly before I put together some videos of 'how to use this site'

I thought it was only used within the X-Cart add-on module "Gift Registry".

i.e. steps are like this
a) products are added to a customers "wish list",
b) then wish list can be added to a customers "gift list"...
c) then the customer adds "friends" names and e-mails to each "gift list" they have.
d) then those friends can come to your store and view that "gift list" (for that customer) - add comments or add those products on the gift list to the cart (i.e. view friends gift list.).

However that was as I remember, the language tag is "view friends gift list" (not lbl_view_friends_wishlist).
I see you are using V4.2.X (which I have not used yet) - perhaps in that version some code that exists (either on purpose or is there by error), which either relates to the gift registry add-on module (if the language variable is added or present) OR is a newer feature in V4.2.X, which works the same way as the gift list logic.

PS: I am wondering if you added a language recently, which includes these extra language tags (the language tag should just lie dormant i.e. not be used anywhere - but due to incorrect code in one template, this is suddenly causing this language tag to appear on a page).

hello mate! hope you are well :-)

Woa! heavy! I think I need to do a lot more testing to work this one out. I am trying to use these standard features and label them specifically to my market. in this way these features become really valuable to me.

Initially I was going to use the Wish List to enable clients to store chosen products from searches. Maybe there is a way I can use the gift list in a different way too, like use it to enable clients to have a secondary store of products for team related decision making on product choice.

Edited: Im on 4.1.11. I think what cflsystems said makes sense because I did mail the wish list to myself, so that is why it popped up.

Balinor: I think these features are quite under-rated because if you simply change the labels to match your market they are features that can be really useful to clients :-)

Agree - I am sure Cftsystems is probably right - I have had the gift registry installed on my store so long, it is hard to know what is part of that and what is standard without it for me...

Just mentioned this possibility, as I know you added some language tags recently and was wondering if that (i.e. one being added) was what caused it to appear... cheers and look forward to catching up - Asiaplay
