Display Sub Category in place of root category

When the root category is clicked it shows the sub-category list with the number of products in each sub-category. I want to eliminate this page. Is there a way to display the root category products if there is only a root category without sub-categories. Also, if there are sub-categories, then bypass the root category and display only sub-category.

If you have only root categories with products without subcats it will only show the products. That's standard functionality.

You really need to read the entire post before making a statement as I asked if there's a way to resolve my stated issue. It shows the page that has the number of products and I want to eliminate that page. This may need a custom mod, but I need to find a way to resolve this.

Yea, I don't like this feature either. I think that when you click into a parent category with some child categories under it, it should show all sub cats in a list at the top, and then show all products in sub-cats at the bottom. I'll look into this more, and see how hard it is to code this.

Actually now that I look at it, I'm just going to assign the products to parent category, and proper sub-cat
