Spam Reviews
I have a thought about limiting the amount of spam that comes through reviews without implementing image verification.
It's been my experience lately that 99% of spam reviews have URLs in the text field being submitted. If we could disallow "http://" in the review (i.e. kick the review back to the customer with an error message -- do not post it) it would eliminate most of the spam reviews that are posted. Any thoughts? Could this mod be accomplished easily? Thanks, Tony |
Re: Spam Reviews
You could and should limit reviews to registered customers only.

Re: Spam Reviews
Customer reviews are great for getting new business and we allow anonymous checkout, so limiting them registered customers only is not an option for us.

Why are you against image verification?

Re: Spam Reviews
You might want to consider using an x-cart mod that allows you to moderate the reviews (I cannot recall who makes this), it would help mitigate the spam as you can thoroughly check each review as it comes in. If you don't want to handle that amount of volume though you might want to consider a 3rd party solution such as PowerReviews.

Re: Spam Reviews
We own the BCSE review bundle. Wouldn't have reviews on our store without it. Anyone can submit a review and we only approve non-spam reviews. We see VERY FEW spammy posts, since the posters know that their efforts are a waste of time.
