Discount Coupon - not to apply to sale items

Hello,
I currently have a discount code but I do not want it to apply to my products that are on sale. Is there a way that I can adjust the sale items so they are not affected if someone uses a discount code?

I know a way, but it isn't quick.... find your sale items in admin and make sure "apply global discounts" is unchecked.
