Template can only be edited via xcart template editor.
 

I am current in the process of migrating from a test server to a hosting site.

I copied the skin1 folder from the test server to the new one, but none of them seen to be applying. When I open a template file, rectangle_top.tpl for example, via the xcart template editor, add a space some where, and save. That template would get apply. Also, the template only get apply if I modify the template in some way. If I just open the file, and click save, it woudln't get apply.

make sure you have the correct permissions and ownership rights.

I already chmod -r 777 to the skin folder. And if permission are wrong, xcart template editor should give an error message when I try to save.

Is there a migration guide out there that will tell which folders/files I need to copy over from the old server to the new server?
