Login Errors

Is there a mod that would tell why users are having problems getting registered or logging in? When looking at the login history they just simply says failure. This is great to know they failed but what caused the failure. Who were they. How can I contact them and ask what could I do to assist them in getting logged in? I am hoping there is a mod out there that shows what user information they placed in the registration page before they hit the register button and got the error or a mod that would tell you why they had problems logging in. For some unique reason they attempt more than 3 times and still don't submit a (help me figure out why I am not getting registered or logged in) e-mail so I can help them.

Re: Login Errors

A "best guess" would be that they are using something other than lower case letters and numbers as their username, something that was changed with version 4.1.11, and there is no specific message telling them that this is what they are doing incorrectly.

See the threads at
http://forum.x-cart.com/showthread.php?t=42147&page=4
and

for more information on this and several remedies.

To answer your question directly, there are no mods that I am aware of that give you more information as to why a customer is having problems logging in or registering. You can add a "please email us if you have problems" type link so that they can vent their frustration that way, but I think what I mentioned previously will go a long way to eliminating most of the problem.

JWait,

I have done all I can in the actual editing of text. I changed the following to assist my ID ten T users but to no avail they still seem to run into a door before opening it.

Here is what I have changed on the error_message.php?login_incorrect.
Quote:

Warning

If you already have an account, please LOG IN below. The fields marked with * are mandatory. If you are having troubles please call (918) 338-2444 during business hours, Tues - Fri 10 - 6 CST. You can send an e-mail and I will respond as quick as possible. Please send e-mail to on-site@bartnet.net and in the subject line type website help needed.

Here is what I had changed on the

Quote:

Your Username must include only lowercase letters and MAY NOT contain any special characters such as email address, periods, @, or other symbols.
Username* Password* Confirm Password*

Hopefully someone has a way to snoop out the user information that is being entered. Then if an error condition exist it logs the error and then sends them back to retry the entering of the info.

BTW ID ten T is a acronym from the my helpdesk days of 8 yrs. ID10T user for those that were wondering.
I would think this could be very useful information to admins attempting to trouble shoot their cart problems. With the user's error we could then school them again as to how to get logged in instead of possibly losing a customer.

Re: Login Errors

Check the threads mentioned above. There is a simple fix so that users can use uppercase letters (caps). That is what I did. Then I just added "(letters and numbers only)" just to the right of where the user enters their username. It seems to work fine, and I have had no complaints since.
