Custom skins - how much did you pay?
Just trying to get a feel for how much I might expect to pay to get a custom skin designed - is anyone happy to share how much they paid (or charge) for a custom X-cart skin (either with design included, or just implementation of a design when you are given a pre designed PSD to work off by the client). I want to figure out if it's in my budget, as despite months of work I'm still not happy with how my site has turned out!

Re: Custom skins - how much did you pay?
Price varies greatly depending on who you hire and what you are getting for your money. Is it just a design implementation into the standard X-Cart templates? Are they offering any enhancements such as CSS-based, W3C compliant code?
You also have to remember that freelancers charge completely differently than a design firm, and a firm in Russia will be less than a US-Based firm. So you could easily see prices anywhere from $500 to $5000. |
Re: Custom skins - how much did you pay?
Hi Jayce,
Yeah - this is a very difficult question for most people to answer - as often getting a skin customised, is also linked to getting "features" added - which means it is not just a colour change, but often large code changes as well. Some of those changes in features can be more expensive than one would think unfortunately and I know myself we have spent quite a lot now (but we have added in quiet a lot of features at the same time as skinning).. Also remember that X-Cart is table based and therefore it takes more time to skin, than say a CSS based system would. As a guide other users I know spent around 1-3K for just skinning - so Balinors reply is within ballpark I would say (USA being around 1.5 to 3K+). Hope comments are some use... cheers, Asiaplay |

Cool, that's about what I thought. Basically, I'm hoping that I can con my hubby (a senior web designer) to create me a look which is mostly based off what is already there, and I'll just be trying to find someone to do the implementation :)
