Cart/checkout template: is it possible to use a completely different page template?

We are currently working on a project to achieve greater integration between X-Cart and one of our other websites. As part of this, the idea is that products sold via the other site, and currently manually processed and fulfilled offline, will become available via our X-Cart store.

The tricky bit here is the branding. The powers-that-be think that we need to change the checkout "branding" to something "neutral", as the other site has its own, independent and quite strong brand. In practice this has to mean a completely different template for cart pages, because the branding is prominently in the header.

Leaving aside all the theoretical stuff about whether it's a good idea to do this because of all the trust issues associated with changing presentation partway through a transaction... is it practically possible to have a completely different template for cart pages?

I'm aware of the WebsiteCM product and listing template mods, but as far as I can tell these just change the bit in the middle, whereas I'll need to change the whole frame.

Many thanks,

Rachael

Sure, you can easily use {if} statements to display a completely different template, or just a different stylesheet for the cart.

Thanks, balinor. Where would that change need to be made - in cart.php, or one of the templates?

No, it would be customer/home.tpl. You use {if} statements to tell it what stylesheet to display, or use them to display different templates all together.

Re: Cart/checkout template: is it possible to use a completely different page template?

Please help!
I am using the one page checkout which worked fine until I installed a new template, now my checkout is different from the rest of my site and is still using my old logo, template and colors. Can someone please tell me how to make the checkout the same as the home page and product pages in the cart. Thank you very much in advance.
