NOOB: Configuring Dreamweaver when working on X-cart

I have used dreavweaver extensivley in the past, but that was quite a while ago, many revisions past.

this question is to ask how do you set up your site so dreamweaver assembles all the peices together, to display the assembled page. I have copied my test install locally, and would like to start configuring the layout in Css. I have been working on a design layout in photoshop, and im begining to slice out the components.

Thank you.

Really tough to get DW to work with X-Cart, as you need a plug-in that can understand Smarty, and last time I checked, that wasn't working so good :(

Is that all the hope? How do you manage you lay out. ?
How is the typical workflow for a designer like your self?

I can't speak for everyone else, but I write my code in UltraEdit :) I have also converted X-Cart to a table-less layout, so most times I don't have to deal with the table inside a table inside a table nightmare. Dreamweaver is fine for getting a feel for the tables, but you really can't edit in it.

I am checking out UltraEdit and it does seem pretty powerful for what it cost. One question I have for you, When you are setting up an FTP/SFTP account, on the advanced tab there is the option to choose ASCII or Binary as your default transfer type. Does it make any differance which one you choose or will the program automatically detect the type of file like FileZilla does?

Thanks

Not sure I follow you....are you talking about using UltraEdit as an FTP client?

Yes that is correct, after editing a file I would want to upload it to the server. From the link you gave me above,

Quote:

Setting Your FTP Program to "Auto"

Most FTP programs have the option to set your upload to auto. What this usually does is compare the file type you're transferring against a list of known file types and set it to binary or ascii upload on its own.
By default, most FTP programs will have a pre-set list of files to be transferred in ascii and will upload / download everything else in binary. (These settings are in different places depending on the program you are using. Check the "Read Me" file or their Website if you can't find it.) Be sure to double check that the files you want to transfer are in the appropriate list.

Oh, well it really isn't meant to upload video/images, just text files, so that is why there isn't an auto feature. I'd stick with a true FTP client to manage anything other than the templates/php files.
