Horizontal Drop-down Menu: Categories > Products
 

Instead of the vertical Categories side menu, my customer wants a horizontal menu near the top of the page. He wants to be able to mouseover the main menu items (Categories) and have the submenu items (Products) drop down.

Is this a relatively easy fix or should I request a mod? I know how to do the dropdown menu in html/javascript, but can't figure out how to link to individual product pages (with large photo and long product description).

Do they want it to automatically update as they add/edit products/categories?

I've been trying to do the samething. However, I can't get it to work since im using the artistic tune scheme. If you're using the default theme, this 4 level flyout menu should work fine.

Thanks you, daz3 and Padraic. I've looked at both x-cartmods.co.uk and the thread mentioned above, but they both appear to require subcategories in the dropdown menu. I'd like the menu to include only categories (main menu) and products (dropdown items). Any ideas? Appreciate the help!

Ah sorry, products will be difficult, as they are a different array than categories, so it is tough to get both combined in one menu. You could ask Phil at xcartmods.co.uk about customizing it for you though.

if you use Phil's mod, make a subcat that ONLY has one product (name it the same as the product) - then use this mod to force any single-product subcats to display the product detail page

I have my store built like this for 3 key products that I want to look like categories, but they are actually single product categories. OR -- 2 products look like subcats -- but selecting the subcat in the pulldown takes the customer to the product detail page.
