Free Shipping If Total Order Amount Is Over (X $)
Hi,
Could someone refresh my memory as to configuring: "Free Shipping If Total Order Amount Is Over (X $)." We use flat rate shipping prices and would like to give free shipping for orders over a certain amount. I have read so much that I am beginning to forget what and where. How do we accomplish this? Editing or Configuring and where? Thanks again |
Re: Free Shipping If Total Order Amount Is Over (X $)
I would think that the easiest way is to implement a coupon. You can setup a coupon that gives free shipping based off the coupon code being used, and only valid if an order is over a certain amount.
Then you can advertise the coupon as something special with a deadline. This creates urgency from the customer to take advantage of the special before time runs out. Chances are every month you are going to create another new coupon code with free shipping again and update your advertising, but it gives that additional extra push for customers to buy before the end of the month. I've seen it work in a few stores, it depends on your store I guess. |

jdiehl,
Thanks, this sounds very good in order to create urgency for buying. But it would seem that there must be a way for the program to give free shipping for an order over (X $) 'automatically' when a customer is buying over the (X $) amount, without using a coupon. I know that I have read it in the manual but can't relocate it. |

Sure, just set the flat rate over the amount you want to zero in the shipping charges section :)

Re: Free Shipping If Total Order Amount Is Over (X $)
Yeah sorry just re-read my suggestion and I called it the 'easiest' method. Obviously my method is more designed to promote urgency in purchasing, but not necessarily the easiest method within X-Cart.
Sometimes I get my signals crossed thinking more marketing than purely technical how-to. At least Balinor gave the method to do it, LOL. |

Ryan,
I am not sure that I understand your instructions. I am looking at the flat rate shipping charges form now. Are you saying replace all flat rate charges to 0? If this is what you mean...that would mean that there would be no shipping charges no matter what $ amount bought is. I must be misunderstanding you. |
Re: Free Shipping If Total Order Amount Is Over (X $)
No, that's not what I mean. Post a screenshot of your current rates so I can explain it a bit better.

Re: Free Shipping If Total Order Amount Is Over (X $)
Ok, right now, you have one rate for each shipping method. What you need to do is create two rates for the method you want to be free over a certain threshold. The first rate would be up to the free shipping amount. So if the threshold is $50, you would have 0-$50 in the order total fields. Then, you add a second rate with $51-$99999 in the order total, with 0 as the flat rate. That will charge the shipping rate up to $50, and then be free after that for that method. Make sense?

Ryan,
You are right again!!!!! I have spent 5 hours trying to solve this problem. I see now why you moderate this forum. Thanks again my friend. I have several more problems that I still can't solve but will give them the good ol college try before I submit them to the forum. Thanks again Ryan |
