How would I add a block of text that is only at the bottom of the home page?

customer/main/welcome.tpl. Just add it in right under the featured products include.

I don't want to edit templates as I am not sure what to do and I could really mess up the store. So I found this safe way:

in Admin

go to Languages
choose your language from the top drop down box

Then select Topic by searching with a keyword. In this case that area is
lbl_featured_content

If you search by keyword many times any keyword on the area you are searching will work, such as Welcome to change the text on the area above the featured items. Just make sure it is the text you are looking for and always save a copy of the original one just in case. You can go back and revert it if that's the case. Changes made there become immediately live once saved. Just hit Update All and it saves the changes.

It is not sophisticated, but works for me.

This has helped me alot, but I have an additional question to build on this. How would I setup my welcome.tpl to randomly pull / display different variables to different visitors. For Example, I make my lbl_featured_content say what I want, then make another called lbl_featured_content2, etc with different content / keywords in it. I would like it to randomly pick and display one of these with each new visitor to the site (or page refresh).
