Creating pages that display different categories
Hello,
I have potential client that would like to set up their store as follows: Division 1 | Division 2 | Division 3 Each of these divisions is separate from each other. These Divisions would be shown as graphic tab links at the top of the site and when clicked on would list their own categories and sub categories on the sidebar, much where the categories are listed as default. /edit As per part of this existing thread each Division can be a Root Category. Now each Root category when clicked on should display it's sub-categories in the side bar instead of all categories and all sub-categories of the entire store as the cart does by default. Is there a way of doing this? any input would be greatly appreciated. |
Re: Creating pages that display different categories
Set up the divisions as root categories, and add sub-categories to them.

Re: Creating pages that display different categories
That makes sense, so now if I make the a root category as Division 1 how would I get that page to only display Division 1's sub-categories.
..... the same if I make another root category as Divison 2 how would I get that page to only Display Division 2 sub-categories. thx for your help. |
Re: Creating pages that display different categories
That's the way it works by default...the only sub-cats you see when you click on a root cat are the ones belonging to that root cat.

Re: Creating pages that display different categories
sorry I should have been more clear.. in reference to the side bar where the all categories are usually listed I will see only the root category sub-categories listed?
I don't want all subcategories of all root categories being listed on the side menu. just the subcategories of the root category should be listed. |
Re: Creating pages that display different categories
Sub-categories don't show by default in the side menu.

Re: Creating pages that display different categories
but is there a way of listing it's subcategories?

Re: Creating pages that display different categories
Yes, you would need to do a little hacking though. Have a look in the Custom Mods forum, lots of category display mods, some of which cover showing sub-categories. You would just need to use the part about sub-category display and hide the root category display part.
