Help with Header/logo

I want my logo to extend the full width of the page. But because it is arranged as a table, then the address, phone, and my speed bar are pushed way to the right. I want them to overlap part of the logo.....I tried putting the logo as a background image in the css, and it looked great, but then a customer says that they prefer the ability to use the logo to return to home rather than the small home link in the speed bar.....so what would you all suggest I do to accomodate this? I know it is possible as I have seen many of your websites that have a full width logo and the 'tabs' of the top menu overlay that image.

Also, If you don't like the speed bar(seen reference in many posts on these forums about it being junk) - what do you suggest instead? I don't want the bulk of my links being way down in that help menu, I feel a person should be able to see a good majority of any navigational links from the first sight, no extra scrolling. I know when I shop, if I can't easily find a link to what I want on the top of the page, I usually won't take much time to scroll down and find it.

Thanks much,

Sassy

Sassy,

You may want to look into PhilJ's mods for speedbar and navigation menus:

http://www.xcartmods.co.uk/

As for your header image:

Who says the image is the link? ;) What if you used a transparent gif as your link source - and don't have it go over the speedbar. You can also try an image map (not as cool, in my opinion). There are more than a few ways to get there. You can also try using a DIV. You can also slice the logo header image... I'm sure you'll find your best solution.

Hope this helps.

Actually I have looked there many times, but it is very hard to understand....I have version 4.1.6, so it doesn't look like there are any mods for the menu in version 4.....and since it is only text descriptions, how do I know I really want that? no pics etc.....overall I think it is not very easy to purchase from that site even if I knew I wanted to.

I will give this a try....

While I really hate so many tables, I am a bit reluctant to change the layout quite that drastically - since I really don't fully understand this what will happen when updates come if I have changed tables to div's?

Thanks much,

Sassy

Phil has demos and images of everything...

Here is the demo of the speedbar mod (I own it -- it's great!)

Maybe look a bit closer?

Other than the image files....what is different? Does it still use the info from the speed bar portion of the admin? And the demo only shows about 5 tabs....my problem is that I actually need more than that, so I want something that goes into two rows.
