Permission denied when editing templates.
Hello all.
I recently re-installed a backup to my x-cart. After installing and then trying to save an editted template I get a "Permission Denied error" After doing a search in the forum I came up with this topic... http://forum.x-cart.com/viewtopic.php?t=2789 After reading this I checked my permissions on the template_c directory and it is set to 777. The question I have is the "owner". When I check it thru my sites control panel it shows "owner" as "www" where as the others are set to "chnh12". Do I want owner to be "chnh12" with all the others or something else? I was able to edit templates with the back up file previously and I can still do everthing else thru the admin site. Thanks Dave |
it may be that the files in the skin1 directory now have a permission value of 644, change this to 666 and you should be good to go.

Hi Shan
The permissions in the skin1 dir were set to 777. I set them to 666 and the skin would not even come up.(white screen) Any other suggestions? Dave |
did you set the folder to 666 or the template files .tpl ?
skin1 folder to 777, template files to 666 |
skin1 is at 777
Do you mean template_c is to be at 666? Thanks Dave |
no,
skin1 folder set to 777 template files inside skin1 dir set to 666 (ie help.tpl) templates_c folder set to 777 you shouldnt need to worry about the templates_c directory. The files that you edit are in the skin1 directory and then xcart compiles them and stores them in templates_c directory |
Thanks Shan that did it. I was "assuming" that those changed with the dir folder options. Dave |

How about the folders inside skin1 (admin, buttons, customer etc) and the tpl file inside those. Do file permissions need to be set there too? |
