question about modifying tpl file during CDSEO installation
Hi everyome,
During the installation of the CDSEO Links add on, I need to modify 2 tpl files. When I open it up in notepad, there are spaces or tabs and sometimes a space that I can't figure out what it is. So if I need to insert extra code, does it matter about the spaces or tabs between what I insert and what's before and after?? Thanks. P.S. I didn't use Dreamweaver as I wasn't sure if it would add or change code. |
Re: question about modifying tpl file during CDSEO installation
Although notepad is a text editor, it is not the ideal text editor for code. You should use a text editor that will HELp you analyze and write code... color coding, etc...
Spaces can typically be ignored in .tpl files, however spaces within a section of code that will be visible or print to scren will look like spaces. What code are you specifically speaking of? |
Re: question about modifying tpl file during CDSEO installation
Hi Carpediem,
Its during the installation of the CDSEO Links add on. In 6-7 tpl files, eg location.tpl, category_modify.tpl, you need to replace existing blocks of code with new ones described during the installation process. I added the code into the existing templates assuming the spaces before the code were not important (and I don't think they were elements that are directly visible printed) I tried it, and so far it seems to be working. Thanks |

Re: question about modifying tpl file during CDSEO installation
Padraic, this was really about template editing in general -- and white space... not cdseo specific, so I left it in template editing.
I would say snowboard's question was not unusual for a newbie to template editing... I may write up an addition to a FAQ about white space when I get a moment. Leave it here if you want -- probelm has been solved - but the question would be valid in any mod or template editing. Just my opinion. |
Re: question about modifying tpl file during CDSEO installation
Sorry, saw CDSEO and just moved it...didn't even notice you had replied :) Move it wherever you like.
