How do I add a Drop Shadow to Text...
Hi...
How do I add a drop shadow to the 'Category' and 'SubCategory' headings (and other CSS headings) that appear in the main column? Thanks... |

Photoshop :) You can't apply a drop-shadow to actual text..it needs to be an image.

Re: How do I add a Drop Shadow to Text...
The text that I'm speaking of is generated by X-Cart. It's the various products within the product categories. Those change depending upon which product is selected by the customer so creating a PSD file for them won't work... would it?
I tried playing with the CSS Extensions Visual Effects Filter but it didn't seem to work on anything. Is that meant for 'Text' effects?? Thanks... |
Re: How do I add a Drop Shadow to Text...
Oh if you are talking about CSS drop-shadows, I wouldn't recommend them...the results are too unpredictable in different browsers. Looks great in some, bad in others. If you want consistency, you need to use images.

Re: How do I add a Drop Shadow to Text...
How do you get X-Cart to recognize the individually created text images for the different products? I think I know the way I'd do it but not sure if it's the correct way.
Question 2 and most importantly, I think... If I use individually created images for the Product titles, does that affect the way Goggle and other search engine sites view and rate my site? Thanks... |
Re: How do I add a Drop Shadow to Text...
Question 2 pretty much answers question 1...you don't want to use images for category or product links as you lose the keyword value of the text link. The SE's can spider the image links but they aren't as valuable as text links.

Came across this awhile back and bookedmarked it, it may help you out if you are looking to do the drop shadows with CSS.
http://www.workingwith.me.uk/articles/css/cross-browser-drop-shadows The article is over a year old so I am not sure what may have changed as far as support for other browsers but it should give you a good starting point. |
Re: How do I add a Drop Shadow to Text...
Yes, and look at their examples of rendered text...awful in some browsers, ok in some. Not worth the effort IMHO.
