New user help needed. displaying product listing

Hello everyone!! I am new to the x-cart software but look forward to building a nice site and participating in these forums. I really only need one change and that is to display the product listings one line after another like the example below. So a user would click on it and that would bring up the description / pictures. We have thousands of products and this way it is much easier for us and our customers.

Pentium 1.2ghz system 499.00
Linux server 2.0ghz 500.00
and well you get the idea.

Is this possible ? Any help / suggestions / examples would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

I am not that expert,
But i would love to help,
In you admin zone,
click "edit templates"
go edit template:
/customer/main/products.tpl

look for this code

Quote:

<table border=0 width=100%>
<tr><td width=90 align=center valign=top>
<a href=product.php?productid={$products[product].productid}&cat={$cat}&page={$navigation_page}>{in clude file="product_thumbnail.tpl" productid=$products[product].productid image_x=70 product=$products[product].product}
{$lng.lbl_see_details}</a>
</td>
the previous part is responsible of the thumpnail pic
you can delete it but leave the <tr> and <td>
this will eliminate the the thumbnail pic

Quote:

<td valign=top>
{$products[product].product}</font>
<font size=1>

{$products[product].descr|truncate:300:"...":true}

</font>
<hr size=1 noshade width=230 align=left>
{if $active_modules.Subscriptions ne "" and $products[product].catalogprice}
{include file="modules/Subscriptions/subscription_info_inlist.tpl"}
{else}
{if $products[product].price ne 0}
{if $products[product].discount ne 0}
<font class=MarketPrice>{$lng.lbl_market_price}: <s>
{math equation="price/(1-(discount/100))" price=$products[product].price discount=$products[product].discount format="%d.00" assign=unformatted}{include file="currency.tpl" value=$unformatted}
</s></font>

{/if}
<font class=ProductPrice>{$lng.lbl_our_price}: {include file="currency.tpl" value=$products[product].price}</font><font class=MarketPrice>{include file="customer/main/alter_currency_value.tpl" alter_currency_value=$products[product].price}</font>{if $products[product].discount ne 0}, save {$products[product].discount}%{/if}{if $config.General.use_vat eq "Y"}, {$lng.lbl_including_vat} {$products[product].vat}%{/if}
{else}
<font class=ProductPrice>{$lng.lbl_enter_your_price}</font>
{/if}
{/if}
</td></tr>
</table>
leaave it as is
- just make sure your product dicription "not the detailed one" is a 1 line "that's what you want
- cancel the
to suite yourd design
it'a all about the html now ...

I hope i helped

Too easy

Thank you for the tips I do appreciate it and will try that out today. I was using OSCOMMERCE before this software and to make a change you had to be a darn programmer. nice software but what a mess if your not familiar with php.

wrong file

Hi, its actually before you go into the main product description. I am looking for the file that displays the products in each category and that is the one I want to change

skin1/customer/products.tpl

emf_electronics 05-31-2003 10:16 AM

ok i found

The file and got rid of the thumbnails, what would it take to just have the title / price in that line and nothing else

More template editing ;)

Are you using a visual editor like dreamweaver?

My products.tpl is fairly modded but I might suggest this.

look for something like this

Code:

<font class="ProductDetails">

{$products[product].descr|truncate:300:"...":true}

</font>

and remove it.

Got it

That worked, how would you display a custom field in that same line with the product title / price. This is turning into an all day project but its fun.
